Gait Analysis

Understand How You Move — and Why It May Be Causing Pain

Our gait analysis service helps identify how movement, foot function and biomechanics may be contributing to pain, recurring injury or reduced performance. Using video-based assessment and more advanced analysis where appropriate, we help patients understand what is happening and what to do next.

Who It's For

Is This Treatment Right for You?

Gait analysis is useful for patients with recurring foot, ankle or lower-limb pain, and for runners wanting a clearer understanding of their movement pattern.

Recurring Running Injuries

Repeated problems linked to training load, footwear, biomechanics or technique that keep returning despite rest and basic treatment.

Heel Pain or Achilles Pain

Understanding how you load the heel and Achilles during movement can be an important part of assessment and treatment planning.

Forefoot Pain or Overuse Symptoms

Identifying how load is distributed across the forefoot during walking or running can help explain persistent or recurring symptoms.

Concerns About How You Walk or Run

If you feel something is not right about your movement pattern, or you want a clearer picture of your biomechanics, we can help.

Repeated Injuries Linked to Biomechanics

Where training load or technique may be a contributing factor, gait analysis helps identify patterns that could be addressed.

Pre-Orthoses or Rehab Assessment

A clearer assessment of movement and foot function before orthoses are prescribed or a rehabilitation plan is put in place.

Conditions We Assess

When Gait Analysis May Help

Gait analysis can form part of assessment for a wide range of movement-related and overuse conditions.

Heel Pain / Plantar Fasciitis
Achilles Tendinopathy
Runner's Knee
Shin Splints
Metatarsalgia
Recurring Overuse Injuries
What to Expect

What Happens at Your Appointment

A structured assessment designed to understand how your movement may be contributing to pain or injury.

1

Discussion

We begin by discussing your symptoms, activity levels, injury history, footwear and goals to understand the full picture.

2

Movement Assessment

We assess the way you walk or run using 2D video or 3D MotionMetrix analysis, and look for movement patterns that may be contributing to the problem.

3

Clinical Findings

We explain what the assessment has identified — clearly and in plain language — so you understand what is happening and why.

4

Next Steps

Findings are used to guide treatment, rehabilitation advice, footwear recommendations or orthoses where appropriate.

Why Choose Us

Why Choose Us for Gait Analysis

Two Levels of Analysis

We offer both accessible 2D iPad running analysis and advanced 3D MotionMetrix gait analysis — the right level of assessment for your needs and goals.

Part of a Wider Clinical Picture

Gait analysis is integrated with our broader podiatry assessment so findings are used meaningfully, not just reported and filed.

MSK-Trained Podiatrists

Our team has postgraduate training in musculoskeletal podiatry and assesses movement and biomechanics as part of everyday clinical practice.

4 Yorkshire Clinics

Gait assessment is available across all four clinics — Leeds, York, Wetherby and Wharfedale. 3D MotionMetrix running analysis is delivered at our York and Leeds clinics.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is gait analysis used for?

Gait analysis helps us understand how the way you walk or run may be contributing to pain, recurring injury or reduced performance. The findings can guide treatment, rehabilitation advice, footwear recommendations or orthoses where appropriate.

Is gait analysis only for runners?

No. It can be useful for runners, but also for people with recurring foot, ankle or lower-limb pain during walking or daily activity who want a clearer picture of what may be contributing to the problem.

What is the difference between 2D and 3D gait analysis?

2D running analysis uses video to assess movement in a practical and accessible way — suitable for most patients. 3D MotionMetrix analysis provides a more advanced biomechanical assessment where a greater level of detail is clinically appropriate.

Do I need a GP referral to book gait analysis?

No. You can book directly. A GP referral is not required for any of our services.

How much does gait analysis cost?

Current fees are £135 for 2D running analysis and £210 for 3D MotionMetrix analysis. Both appointments are up to 90 minutes. Please contact us if you would like to confirm which assessment is most appropriate before booking.

Will I receive a treatment plan following the assessment?

Yes. The findings from your gait assessment are used to inform clear recommendations — whether that involves rehabilitation exercises, footwear advice, orthoses, or other podiatry treatment where appropriate.

Ready to Book Your Gait Analysis Appointment?

Appointments are available across Leeds, York, Wetherby and Wharfedale. If recurring pain or movement concerns are affecting you, we can help you understand why and what to do next.
