Podiatry at Glastonbury Festival 2023

by Tony | Jul 6, 2023 | Insights

A short note from earlier in the summer. Bob, Lee and Simon spent a few days at Glastonbury 2023 as part of the FMS Podiatry volunteer team, providing on-site foot care to festival-goers.

Twelve podiatrists were on the team across the festival weekend. Between us we saw around 270 patients — mostly the kinds of foot problems you’d expect from long days walking on uneven ground in unsuitable footwear: blisters, friction injuries, “welly leg”, a few infected wounds, and a steady run of patients who’d done more on their feet in three days than they had in the previous three months.

It’s a useful reminder of how much daily-walking demand can change foot loading, and of how much of the misery is preventable with reasonable footwear choices and basic foot-care kit.

If you’re heading to a festival this year, our festival foot guide covers what to pack, how to head off blisters before they form, and what to do if something goes wrong.
