Elaine McLaughlin is a well-known Podiatrist in Derry, Northern Ireland who this year is celebrating 30 years in business – an amazing achievement.
She trained back in the early 90’s with Lee and they’ve remained friends ever since. She has a staff of 8 Podiatrists and asked us if we could do a refresher course for them and other interested Pods, on MSK Podiatry, which we were happy to do.
The facilities at her Carlisle Street practice are second to none and the conference room upstairs made a perfect venue for the course.
We call the presentations “The Long and Short of….” (can you see what we did there!?) and over 2 days we covered practical skills to aid diagnoses, an overview of the walking and running cycles, the way we prescribe and supply insoles/orthoses as well as looking at the literature around assessments and treatments.
Those who came ranged from a second year Podiatry student to a Podiatry Surgeon. All were keen, rolled their sleeves up and got involved.
The aim of the course was to give everyone something practical they could take away and use in their clinics on Monday morning. From the feedback we’ve received, I’m glad to report that this seems to be the case.
Needless to say the Hospitality was second to none and we were thrilled to be part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations at Ebrington on the Saturday night, with a quick tour of the Derry walls (with the new Undertones mural) before heading home on Sunday. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
